HS2 ignorance is grand

with one comment

According to HS2 Ltd, “there are suggestions to upgrade existing routes, like the Grand Central route between the Midlands and London. The Government is investing £40bn in the existing network, but this cannot provide all the additional capacity required for the future.”

So, people are expected to believe the Grand Central [sic] is part of the “existing network”, which the government “is investing £40bn in”.

  1. This is either gross incompetence of the teams planning the work or deliberate misinformation fed out to the mouthpieces – such as Patrick McGloughlin who at a very early stage claimed that there had been no new main line railway built in the UK for over 120 years, when barely 100 years earlier both the GW/GC joint main line routes London-Birmingham ‘direct’/London-Sheffield ‘Extension’ plus the West of England direct route were delivered in 1906, and so many other inaccurate, or wrong statements.

The Grand Central misnomer is yet another example of the total lack of competence and checking on material coming from HS2 – wrong maps, out of date surveys, lack of any local checking or research… How this project has passed from basic planning to almost being built with such errors is staggering.
