On 2 October, Midlands Connect published a letter from Maria Machancoses to the Oakervee ‘independent’ review of HS2.

The letter mentions ‘attached summary reports and business cases for projects and initiatives’, but these are not enumerated, and it is unclear how many of them have been published.

  1. No accurate cost/benefit analysis report into the High Speed Two rail project has ever been produced. The 2011 Major Project Authority Report gave HS2 an Amber/Red warning 8 years ago; nothing has changed. The report was only published following legal action and an an attempt to gag its publication using a veto by the then Sec. of State for Transport. No open and transparent reports have been published since. The atmosphere of secrecy is institutional within HS2 Ltd. How can the Director of Midlands Connect seriously believe that the evidence she has provided, in her letter, to the Oakervee Review Panel is anything else but disingenuous? The final bill for HS2 is now estimated to be, in the words of the Prime Minister himself, north of £100 billion. No justification can be made for a project that lacks any of the rules of basic good housekeeping and openness and transparency. The faults and behaviours within HS2 Ltd are institutional and way beyond change. Midlands Connect have sadly joined the gravy chain along with the West Midlands Mayor Andy Street.
I am a proud, born and bred, Brummie who wants the best for the West Midlands , however, I stronger object to the Director of Midlands Connect selling the West Mildand’s heart and soul for a project that is out of control both financially and ethically. HS2 Ltd is literally sucking the financial life blood out of every part of the UK.
