  2. The single tracking of Leamington-Coventry delivers major problems whenever even minor delays occur and as matter of urgency for delivery of a West Midlands network with real resilience the ‘spine route’ Leamington-Nuneaton should be electrified and double tracked.

    There is the potential to deliver a grade-separated junction to the West of Coventry so that freight can use this route to reach the Trent Valley, or an alternative route to Birmingham, reaching Hams Hall, Bescot etc without using routes via Solihull or Birmingham International

    This would also enable local trains to run Rugby-Nuneaton via Coventry and an electric local service from Leamington should be considered

    Providing 2 routes for Coventry-Birmingham will provide resilience for unplanned events and the facility to close the current route via Birmingham International for maintenance and upgrading
