Getting Leonie excited

with one comment

HS2 would pass through Long Eaton via a 16 metre high viaduct, but the benefits for the town are “very exciting”, according to Leonie Dubois, HS2 head of consultation and engagement (quoted in the Nottingham Post, 21 Sep 2017).

Toton parkway station would be “the best connected station on the railway network, which is a massive opportunity for the people”.

  1. Having talked with many affected Long Eaton residents, there was no sign of excitement. Mainly concern over whether they should move and whether they can afford the move. And concern over whether the viaduct will kill the town. Toton is similar.

The local politicians are full of it: the great economic boom coming our way. But with its already excellent transport connections (the M1, the airport, an hourly train service to London taking only 90 minutes) Long Eaton should already be an economic powerhouse & commuter hotbed. Curiously, the local politicians can’t explain this.
