The tunnel or the hub
In the view of the Beleben blog,
- HS2 Ltd’s currently-planned tunnel under Crewe, and the HS2 Ltd / Network Rail plan for a ‘hub’ station south of Crewe, are mutually exclusive proposals
- government will find itself unable to secure meaningful private funding for the HS2 station west of Manchester airport. If it were built, virtually the entire cost would come – one way or another – from public funds (just like the rest of HS2). A large part of the cost might end up in Greater Manchester council tax bills.
