HS2 is terminal for West Yorkshire connectivity

With all the recent brouhaha about the siting of a HS2 station in South Yorkshire, it’s easy to overlook the negative effects of the proposed terminal station in Leeds.

In ‘The Yorkshire Hub: An interim report on the redevelopment of Leeds station’, HS2 Ltd chairman David Higgins proposed that the Leeds high speed station should remain a terminus, and be moved nearer to the existing City classic station.

His proposal would prevent four-tracking of the classic east – west route through Leeds, thereby removing the possibility of an efficient RER-type heavy rail system for the Leeds region.
