HS2 as a 24-hour transport system

with 4 comments

Youtube video, 'Designing HS2 with BIM', by Andrew McNaughton

According to a building information modelling video featuring its chief engineer Andrew McNaughton, the HS2 railway is to be a ’24-hour transport system’.

But the same video says HS2 would be closed for maintenance between midnight and 05:00.

So, on that reasoning, a shop that is open to the public between 08:00 and 18:00, but cleaned and restocked overnight, is a ’24 hour retailing system’.

  1. Midnight until 6am is freight.

    • Could you please tell me where I can find details of the “freight junctions” on HS2 and also the potential routes of the over-night freight trains.

      • No, the only information was of a midnight-6am window that would be used for freight. My recollection is that I heard this from HS2 themselves at the time of the 2013/14 consultation and again since.

For my part, I desperately need a forum where I can ask these sort of questions and get answers. I’m arguing against councillors and council officers in council meetings on behalf of local residents, yet I can get no help from Stop HS2 or anyone in getting the information I need.

  2. Actually, no. At about 1 minutes in he states “5 hours maintenance, 19 hours earning a living”.

If however you are right, please tell me the locations of the freight connection points classic / HS2 and also the likely start and finish points of the proposed services.
