A criminal waste of money

Criminals are hoping people in the West Midlands will not go out and vote in the £3.7 million police and crime commissioner election on 21 August 2014, according to a full page Home Office ad in the Birmingham Mail (15 Aug 2014).

But how would the Home Office know? Are criminals in fear of a particular candidate being elected, and if so, who is it? What happens if someone’s flat is burgled, while they’re out voting in the pointless election?

The remit of a police and crime commissioner does not extend to running the police, and the claim that the election means “you have a voice on how local crime is policed”, is nonsense.
