The shame of short-changing Birmingham PR men who travel to Brussels on a regular basis

with one comment

Go HS2 Bullring to Boulevard in three hours not happeningPatrick McLoughlin has announced through written answers that in an effort to shave £700 million off the cost of HS2, the “imminently [sic] sensible proposal” to link HS2 to Europe has been scrapped (wrote a Birmingham PR bloke who frequently travels to Brussels).

[‘Birmingham short-changed after plans to link HS2 to Europe are scrapped’, David Kuczora, Birmingham Post, 18 March 2014]

[…] I travel frequently to Brussels, so the proposition of boarding a train at Birmingham and not having to change trains in London is incredibly attractive.

London gets on my nerves at the best of times, so how brilliant would it be to avoid schlepping from one terminal to another?

Instead, McLoughlin has announced through written answers that in an effort to shave £700 million off the cost of HS2, this imminently sensible proposal has been scrapped.

How short-sighted. You’ve short-changed Birmingham, Patrick. Shame on you.

  1. In the full article the author says

“A new rail terminal close to Birmingham Airport was supposed to allow you to step off a plane and whizz directly to Europe”

Why does he think that anyone would want to fly to Birmingham in order to catch a train to mainland Europe when they could catch a plane to wherever they wanted to go in the first place.
This is typical nonsense from the supporters of HS2 who are continually scrabbling about trying to find bogus justifications for apointless vanity project.
