Mi shell, ma belle: David Higgins wants shell of Leeds station to be built as soon as possible“It’s early days – I’m only a week into the job,” HS2 chairman David Higgins said. “I don’t want to raise unrealistic expectations.”

So what was the point of suggesting that HS2 “may ease housing pressure in London”?

Mr Higgins also said he would listen closely to Sheffield City Council’s calls for a city centre HS2 station, but his priority is to build HS2 as quickly as possible.

“I particularly like the idea in Yorkshire and in Leeds, for example, of building the shell of the station as soon as you get started – as soon as you get Royal Assent.

“It gives confidence to the industry to invest, to say it is going to happen.”
