Like a motorway

with one comment

'Like a motorway' (St Etienne)People should think of High Speed 2 “as a motorway“, treasury minister and ‘HS2 growth taskforce’ chief Lord Deighton told ITV Central television. (The comment was aimed at justifying HS2’s inconvenient periurban / rural parkway stations at Toton, Meadowhall, and Middle Bickenhill).

[transcript from ITV Central, 15 Nov 2013]

“you don’t drive motorways into the main high streets of a city, you drive them where there’s space, and then you feed er, smaller roads, or in this case, rail lines or other transport systems into the city centres, it’s the efficient way to do it.”

  1. It’s looking like HS2 has cost Toton its remaining green belt land (80ha).
If you won’t go to the City, the City will come to you.
